Now that the 2020 caravanning season is in full swing, it’s time to get that trip away booked! But before you go, make sure you have all you need to ensure a smooth trip with all the essentials on board.

You can visit our on-site shop at our Colden Common showroom or take advantage of our new online shop, where a good range of our products are available. You could be new to caravanning or a dab hand who needs to upgrade a few items - but what are the most important things to buy to make your caravanning summer holiday complete?

Awnings and awning accessories

Get kitted out!

Awnings are great - some of them can even double the footprint of your caravan! They provide bags of extra space, which you can use for dining, storage, for the younger kids to play or for the older kids to sleep! They’re really versatile and once you have one, you’ll wonder what you did without it. Be sure to research your options and make sure you get the correct awning for your caravan. Read our blog: Discover your awning options to find out all you need to know about the advantages of awnings, the different options available and how to measure up correctly. We have a range of awning accessories available online for your convenience.

Camping furniture

There’s nothing better than making the most of the great outdoors when you’re away. Hopefully the weather will be kind and there will be plenty of sunny days and mild evenings to enjoy a bite to eat and a few drinks. Having the right outdoor furniture will make all the difference! Isabella offers a range of good quality, affordable camping furniture, ideal for your hols. Everything from folding chairs to a range of table and storage options. Pop into our on-site shop to take a look.

BBQs and accessories

Take advantage of the long summer evenings with a bit of outdoor cooking on the barbie! You can cook up a range of meat and veggie options and throw together a salad to create a truly tasty dinner. We stock a range of Cadac BBQs and accessories so we should have something to suit every chef!

Towing

If you’re a first time caravanner, there will be a few items you need to buy to enable you to tow. Items such as towing plugs, conversion leads and towing mirrors are essential for safe towing. If you’re unsure, feel free to pop in and see us for as much advice and guidance as you need. You can also give our blog: Our guide to towing a read; we take you through the towing process and throw in a few tips to boot!

Security and levelling

There are various accessories on the market to assist when it comes to pitching your caravan and making sure it’s level. We stock caravan level indicators, wheel chocks and level sets to make the process quick and easy. Don’t forget the importance of securing your caravan as well - hitch locks, wheel locks and leg logs are just a few of the options to keep your caravan safe and secure both on-site and during rest stops on your journey.

Water accessories

Hopefully you won’t need many of these and fingers crossed only very occasionally, but there are many accessories relating to caravan water systems on the market. If you ever have the need for any parts or accessories, check out our online shop or give us a call to see what we have in stock. Whatever the problem, we’re sure to have the part you need to get your water flowing once more!

Power

One of the biggest advantages of caravanning over camping is the fact that electricity and electrical devices are incorporated on board, making your holiday a great deal easier. You can charge your phone, dry your hair and light up dark nights at the flick of a switch. To do this, you’ll need an electric hook-up cable. Make sure you investigate the different options available to get the best quality cable for your budget. It’s also advisable to invest in a leisure battery as they can provide up to 11 hours’ of power in one charge, ideal for those times when hook-up is not available or you’ve opted for a non-electric site.

Well-equipped kitchen

Having the homeware you want and need in your kitchen will make all the difference. Make a list of everything you use at home and ensure you have the same things on board at all times. Things that are often forgotten include sharp knives, chopping boards, tin and bottle openers! Go for tableware that is appropriate - melamine is a good option as it is non-breakable but nicer than plastic. If you opt for real mugs and glasses be sure to pack them well during transit to avoid breakages! Compact kettles and toasters are a must-have - tea and toast are caravanning staples, but you don’t want your appliances to take up too much space.

Keep it clean

Make sure your cleaning cupboard is well-stocked. Antibac spray/wipes, washing up liquid and bathroom cleaner are essential. You may also want to think about items such as water purifying tablets, chemical toilet cleaners and stored water cleansers, which will make caravanning life a lot more pleasant!

Be sure to pack...

  • Bedding - getting a good night’s sleep is so important, so be sure to give some thought to what bedding you will go for in the caravan. Sleeping bags or duvets? Which sheets and pillows? What weight duvet? Considering these points will make it more likely that you’ll sleep well whilst away.

  • Water containers - don’t forget these! They are essential for convenient caravanning life.

  • Make sure you have a fire extinguisher and fire blanket on board for any small fire emergencies - but think safety first.

  • First aid kit. These always come in handy, especially if you’re travelling with children. Remember the insect repellent, plasters and paracetamol!

  • All your washroom essentials - shower mat, bath towel, hand towels and toiletries.

  • All weather gear - wellies and raincoats, sun hats and sun cream - you never know what the Great British weather will do!
