Have you been thinking about purchasing a caravan? Perhaps you’ve stayed in static ones and are tempted to take the leap to your own touring version? Or maybe you’re a keen camper with the desire to upgrade? Whatever your mindset, opting for caravanning life will be a great move.

It will give you your very own home on wheels, the chance to explore the UK and beyond at your own pace. There are many reasons why buying a caravan is a good idea and we’ve listed the top 10 here to help you decide if it’s the right choice for you...

Freedom without compromise

Caravan holiday

Caravanning gives you complete freedom to do what you like, when you like. You get to enjoy the best of both worlds - the great outdoors and all it has to offer, alongside all your creature comforts! Enjoy a day out hiking and come back to a hot shower and a home cooked meal (or pizza from the oven)!

Sky’s the limit!

Your caravan can take you wherever you fancy! Do your research to determine where you’d like to visit; it doesn’t have to be one place, list a whole host of destinations and tick them off trip by trip! Then decide if you fancy a week chilling somewhere or a whistle-stop tour of a few places. The world is your oyster...

Self-contained

A caravan gives you fully equipped kitchen and washroom facilities meaning that you have everything you need on board! There’s no need to share facilities - or even venture outside if you don’t want to - and 2020 has certainly been the year for that! Caravanning has been the answer to many holidaymakers’ prayers this year as it makes social distancing easy. Even in non-COVID times having your own facilities is a bonus - no queueing for the showers for you!

Value for money

Caravans are very reasonably priced; they cost much less to buy than motorhomes as they are not a motor vehicle as well. After purchase, pre-owned models hold their value particularly well and if you’re buying new, keep in mind that it’s best to keep hold of your chosen model for a few years to get the best return on investment. After the initial purchase (which can be done on finance) future trips are relatively low cost; research the different sites available to get the best pieces and look out for special offers. Booking early is a good idea too!

Spacious

Caravans can be very spacious, making for a comfortable holiday and ideal for families as you’ll have plenty of storage space for all your things. Some caravans can accommodate up to six people with various different layout options and bed configurations to suit your party. They certainly offer a versatile holiday - bring the kids, some friends and even the dog! Be sure to check which sites are dog-friendly before you book though! Pitch-up is a great website for researching site availability and suitability.

Low maintenance

Caravans are low maintenance as they are not motor powered so there’s no need for an MOT. Be sure to book your caravan in for its annual service to keep it in tip top condition and make use of your comprehensive warranty if you need to. Our NCC-approved workshop can book your caravan in at a time to suit you, adhering to social distancing and safety guidelines every step of the way.

Get settled

Once you reach your destination you can pitch and level your caravan and set it up in the way you want, knowing that it will not need to be moved during your trip (unless you’re on a multi-stop tour). This will make it easier to set up a cosy camp with windbreaks and a gazebo if you wish, providing more space and privacy.

Spread out

Awnings are great - there are many different types and sizes available and some can even double your footprint! The extra space could provide a great play area for the kids, a secondary dining room or even an additional sleeping area for guests. Check out the range of awnings we offer and read our blog to find out more.

Free to explore

Once you’ve unhitched the caravan and set up your pitch, you’re free to go off and explore the area! Opting for a caravan rather than a motorhome will make getting around a lot easier during your trip, especially down any narrow streets!

Remote working - literally!

Turn Working from Home into Working from Anywhere! As long as your chosen campsite has WiFi (or you have unlimited data and good access to it) why not make the most of your time away from the office and explore more of the UK from the comfort of your caravan? You can see different places and work remotely at the same time!

Things to consider before you buy…

There’s a lot of choice, so be sure to investigate your options. Research the different manufacturers, ranges and models to narrow down what is likely to suit your party. What facilities and dimensions do the different models offer? Think about what layout would work best for you, how many berths you’ll need and how much you’re looking to spend.

Make a list of your top must-have features and only compromise on the ones you are happy to. If you don’t get the majority of what you set out to get, you won’t be happy post-purchase.

Set a budget and stick to it. Do your research beforehand to find out what the type of caravan you’re looking for is worth to ensure your budget is realistic.

Towing can take some getting used to, especially the first few times you do it. Practice locally before you go on your first trip to gain confidence and be sure to drive slower than you usually would to ensure safety. Leave more time than you need to make your journey so you’re not pressured or stressed and having to rush.

Don’t forget caravan security, fire safety and insurance! Where you plan to store your caravan will affect your insurance premium and be sure to shop around to get the best deals.
