The new year is a great time to start thinking about the trips you’d like to take during the year ahead. As lockdown #3 continues, having some breaks planned for later in the year is sure to give you something to look forward to during these long winter months!

Foreign travel is still looking uncertain at this time, so caravanning could be your ideal alternative! It will allow you to be completely self-contained if you choose, whilst also enjoying some glorious surroundings. We’re extremely lucky to live in Hampshire as the county offers many fantastic places to head off to with your caravan in tow!

Sandown

With miles of coastline and the New Forest right on our doorstep, there are plenty of idyllic locations to park up and enjoy. Discover 7 of our favourite Hampshire destinations for a relaxing caravan getaway...

Brockenhurst

The New Forest is arguably the best place to caravan in Hampshire as it has so much to offer and so many places to choose from. The great outdoors is right on your doorstep wherever you opt to pitch, with plenty of open spaces and wooded areas that are great for walking, cycling and picnics.

Brockenhurst is a gem of a place and home to a number of caravan sites set in woodland areas and offering peaceful rural settings. The little village is lovely, with pretty buildings and shops as well a range of food outlets and pubs enabling you to enjoy a meal out or the odd takeaway if you fancy. Thanks to its central location, towns such as Lymington, Beaulieu and Milford on Sea are just a stone’s throw away, each offering great days out.

Fordingbridge

Set in the north of the New Forest, Fordingbridge is a pretty town with many amenities. The leafy setting offers plenty of peace and quiet, but is well situated if you want to get out and explore! Moors Valley Country Park is close by for an active day out or you could venture to Ringwood or even the city of Salisbury, which is only a 20-minute drive away.

Winchester

While we might be a tad biased, there are some fantastic caravan sites in and around Winchester! Not only will you be close to attractions such as Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium and Marwell Zoo, but you can also take the time to explore the beautiful city itself and enjoy the history and sights of the cathedral.

Winchester was awarded the ‘best place to live in the UK’ accolade in 2016 and it’s easy to see why! Not to mention that we’re just around the corner if there’s anything you need for your caravan during your trip!

Petersfield

Petersfield is a great place to caravan thanks to its rural setting and beautiful town. Take a stroll around the setting and enjoy the feel of this historic market town. Its lake provides the ideal place to enjoy the fresh air, picnic and even feed the ducks! Situated alongside the South Downs National Park and close to Queen Alexandra Country Park, there are also plenty of walking routes and cycle paths to explore for those who like active breaks!

Hayling Island

If you’re looking for a beach break, you won’t be disappointed with Hayling Island. There are plenty of great places to set up camp and it offers the best of both worlds - immediate access to the coast and the choice of a range of other activities as well. The sandy beach is one of only a few in the area and this adds to the attraction. If you manage to drag yourself away from your deck chair, you can enjoy a round of golf, some fun at the fair or a leisurely cycle down the Billy Trail, which extends the length of the island.

Sandown

The Isle of Wight is just across the water! You can see it from the south coast and it’s just a 45-minute ferry crossing to get there. The beauty of opting for the IOW is that you get that holiday feeling the moment you drive onto the ferry!

Sandown is one of many towns you could choose to stay in and it’s an excellent choice. Not only is it picturesque with its sandy beach, but the neighbouring villages of Bembridge, Brading and Godshill are quaint, beautiful and ideal for exploring. There’s lots to do in the area including the IOW Zoo, Dinosaur Isle and Amazon World. Robin Hill Country Park is nearby in Downend and Blackgang Chine theme park is just down the road at Ventor.

Freshwater

Another great IOW option! Freshwater is on the western side of the island, which offers beautiful beaches and scenic spots. It is close to the world-famous Needles attraction with its breath-taking chairlift ride and Alum Bay beach with its multicoloured sands.

Other attractions nearby include Yarmouth Castle, Fort Victoria and Tapnell Farm Park. Tapnell is a great family day out, combining farm fun with active adventures such as crazy golf, go karts, bouncy pillows and adventure playgrounds.

Explore the range of caravan sites in Hampshire by utilising a search site such as pitchup or simply Google your chosen location and see what’s available. It’s a good idea to book ahead to secure your place, especially this year when UK breaks are likely to be in high demand.
