Famed for being the sunniest county in the UK, who wouldn’t want to visit West Sussex? With an average of 1,902 hours of sunshine per year, this county is your best bet for enjoying a bit of British sunshine!

West Sussex is great for many other reasons too! The South Downs National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, runs throughout the West Sussex region, providing beautiful landscapes abundant in wildlife. It offers great opportunities for keen walkers and cyclists and was awarded National Park status in 2011.

West Wittering

It is steeped in history and the City of Chichester, along with the towns of Arundel, Worthing, Horsham, Crawley, Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Midhurst and Petworth fall within its borders. Chichester Cathedral dates back almost a thousand years and the building of Arundel Castle commenced in 1067. Following damage during the English Civil War, it was restored in the 18th and 19th centuries.

As a coastal county, West Sussex also boasts some fantastic beaches. West Wittering beach is absolutely stunning and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d stumbled upon a mediterranean haven on a sunny summer’s day there. Visitors flock to the area during the summer months to enjoy the 0.6 miles of white sandy beachline.

For savoury foodies, West Sussex is a haven! Known for its seafood thanks to its south coast location, spring is great for scallops, whilst summer is prime time for Sussex’s famous brown crab, European lobsters and bream. Some fish, such as sole, gurnard and sole are available all year round, whilst sea bass and brill are fished in the autumn.

The county is also known for its pies - Turner’s Pies was established in 1933 and is still going strong today. With stores in Chichester, Rustington, Bognor Regis and Broadwater, this family-run business was awarded Supreme Champion at the 2020 British Pie Awards with their Steak & Stilton Pie being crowned the Pie of Pies!
