Motorhoming holidays cannot be beaten - the freedom you get from simply being able to take off at the drop of a hat, when the fancy takes you is amazing. With a motorhome you have your own little home on wheels, ready and waiting to take you on your next adventure.

Top 10 benefits of motorhoming

1. There’s so much choice
If you decide that motorhoming is for you, you’ll be thrilled to discover the fantastic amount of choice available. There are many makes and models to choose from, with each offering something a little different. If you’re new to motorhoming, a good place to start is by going to a dealer and looking around a few different makes and models. This will give you a feel for what’s available and also about the different size options. Check out our recent Guide to buying a pre-owned motorhome to find out more about the different types of motorhome and how they measure up.

The next thing to do is write a shortlist of the essential features that your motorhome needs to have. For example:

  • The number of berths you need
  • The number of seatbelts it must have
  • What layout you prefer - mid or end washroom?
  • What bed configuration you favour
  • How much storage you need
  • Any must-have facilities such as kitchen appliances, seating layout and decor

Writing this list might whittle down the number of possible models you’re considering and once you have a refined shortlist it’s a good idea to read reviews on each of them to see what people who have owned and holidayed in them think. It’s great to hear from those who have experienced the models first hand and they should be able to tell you all the pros and cons that they’ve encountered.

2. You can go anywhere you like!
Motorhoming gives you the freedom to go where you like, when you like! You simply need to decide where you fancy going and off you go! You’ll have all your personal belongings with you, all your creature comforts, and you can just set off and enjoy. You can book a site in advance, or just see where you end up. We have some fantastic locations on our doorstep, so you could choose to explore the New Forest, Dorset, Sussex or even the Isle of Wight for those times when you want to stay close to home. Similarly, if you fancy venturing further afield, your motorhome is the ideal vehicle to go exploring in as they’re lovely to drive and have the space to take all you need along with you.

3. Self-contained
One of the best things about motorhomes is that you are completely self-contained, which is incredibly valuable, particularly in the wake of the pandemic. No shared showers or washing up facilities for you, as everything you need is on board! Motorhomes come with fully equipped kitchens and washrooms so you can shower and cook to your heart’s content. When it comes to kitchens, each model is different so be sure to consider what appliances and features you’d like and seek out models that have what you’re after.

4. Great fun for the kids
If you’re motorhoming with your kids or grandkids, it really is the best adventure ever! Not only do they get to travel in the motorhome with all their things around them, but they also get to sleep in it, which has the fun feel of camping, but much more comfortable and luxurious. They’ll also get to enjoy more of the great outdoors, especially if you choose sites or locations that are in rural or coastal areas where there are lots of things to do and explore. Climbing trees, building dens and insect-hunting will be high on the agenda!

5. Great value for money
Motorhoming offers great value for money - for a fraction of the cost of a holiday abroad you could secure a handful of breaks away in the UK. You can opt to wild camp, or if you choose to pitch up at a site, there will simply be a small nightly charge. The fact that you have your own self-contained kitchen means that you can make meals ‘at home’ if you're on a budget, so it shouldn’t cost you any more than if you were at home. There are also plenty of free days out to enjoy - from coastal and woodland walks, to bike rides, picnics, country parks, historical sites and free museums - the choice is yours!

6. Hop around
One of the great pleasures of motorhoming is that you don’t have to stay put in one place if you don’t want to. Of course you can pitch up for a week somewhere and relax and enjoy your surroundings, but if you’re itching to get exploring, motorhoming lends itself to hopping about a bit! Motorhomes are quick and easy to pitch, so if you fancy moving on after a night or two, it’s no hassle at all.

7. Take it all with you
If you’re not someone who travels light, or the kids want to take half their toy collection on every trip, fear not, most motorhomes offer a great amount of storage. As well as a good number of cupboards and wardrobes within the vehicle, many of them also have ‘garage’ storage spaces at the rear. These are able to fit in scooters, paddle boards, kayaks - you name it! Whatever your hobby, you’ll be able to take it with you! Don’t forget that most motorhomes have, or can have a bike rack fitted on the back, giving you even more options for getting out and about and enjoying your trip.

8. Go off grid!
Motorhomes are great for going off grid. Unlike caravans, it’s easy to just pull up in a rural area or car park and simply enjoy your surroundings. Not only is this free of charge, but it also gives you greater freedom to do what you want, when you want. All motorhomes have a leisure battery which means that you’ll still have access to power, and many motorhomes will also have a solar panel too, enabling you to recharge your battery whenever you need to.

9. Home or abroad?
With a motorhome, you’re not just limited to England. Not that our beautiful homeland doesn’t have hundreds of fantastic locations to offer, but if you fancy venturing over borders or overseas, it’s easy to do so. We’re lucky to have Wales and Scotland to explore and a short ferry trip could take you to Ireland or to one of the other British Isles such as the Isle of Man, the Isle of Skye or the Isle of Wight. You could even get a ferry across the Channel and explore France or one of its neighbouring countries including Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg or Belgium - or even go further afield if you wish!

10. Motorhomes hold their value really well
Motorhomes hold their value extremely well, particularly if you buy a pre-owned one. If you’re planning on keeping hold of your vehicle for at least a few years, buying new is a safe bet too. Pre-owned motorhomes that are well-maintained and in good condition are highly sought after so you can rest assured that it will remain an investment should you decide to go for it.
