How much do motorhomes cost?

blog / advice / motorhomes

This very much depends on what you’re after! Are you looking for a new model or pre-owned? What manufacturers are at the top of your list? How many berths do you need? All these things will impact the price you’ll pay.

The first thing to decide is how much you’re able and willing to spend and set yourself a budget. This will enable you to focus on motorhomes in your price range and not waste time on ones that are too expensive. This will ultimately also be the decider as to whether you’re looking at new or pre-owned models and which manufacturers are in the frame.

Motorhomes from different manufacturers can vary quite widely in price, so it’s worth visiting the websites of the manufacturers you’re considering to get a broad overview of their pricing before you get too wed to one which you may later realise is out of your price range.

Next, make a list of must-haves to ensure that the motorhome you end up with ticks all your boxes. Remember to be realistic and only put the real necessities on the list to avoid creating an impossible task! Think about:

  • If buying pre-owned, is there an ideal/maximum mileage you’d consider?

  • Do you have a preference of cab brand - i.e. Peugeot, Fiat, VW, Mercedes Benz, Ford?

  • How many berths do you need?

  • Bed types - French, island, twin, bunks?

  • Your preferred layout - mid washroom or rear washroom?

  • Any must-have kit, such as kitchen appliances, tech or heating type.

  • The level of storage you need.

If you’re looking at new motorhomes, your budget will determine which manufacturers will be open to you. At Winchester Caravans & Motorhomes, we’re an approved dealership for one of the UK’s leading motorhome manufacturers, Bailey.

£69,999 -£74,999 - will get you an entry level motorhome that will accommodate 2-4 people

£73,499 - £76,499 - will get you a mid range motorhome with a choice of layouts for up to 4 people

£79,999 - £88,999 - will get you a luxury motorhome with a choice of layouts and bed configs for 2-6 people

This will depend on many things - the age of the motorhome, the mileage, the model level, the spec, how well it’s been looked after… But as a rough guide, if buying from a dealership you should expect to pay between £40,000 and £60,000 for a four-year-old, mid-range, 4-berth motorhome.

Set yourself a budget and ensure it’s realistic; this will determine what age motorhomes you’ll be looking at, which manufacturers are open to you and whether you’ll be looking at entry, mid or premium level ranges. It's important to get a vehicle that has all the features you want and need, but also one that you feel is good value for money.

Start off by doing some research - price up different manufacturers and models and compare the options. Which ones appeal to you and have the features that you need to fulfil your requirements? Please get in touch if you’d like our help with this or check out our range of great-value, pre-owned motorhomes

We also stock a range of pre-owned VW campervans if you’re looking for something a little more compact…

Though we may not currently have all the ranges and models in stock, we’ll be receiving more new models into the showroom as the season goes on, so please contact us if there’s a particular one you’re interested in.

Bailey’s new Endeavour range - their first ever panel van conversion - offers great value for money and compact form. You can choose from the 2-berth front washroom B62 or the 4-berth rear washroom B64. (£69,999 - £74,999)

Bailey’s Adamo range combines smart design with endless practicality. Its five 4-berth layouts give a choice of mid and rear washroom options all of which are great for family life on the road. (£73,499 - £76,499)

Bailey’s new Alora range is compact in size and stylish in design. The two 3-berth layouts and one 4-berth layout all offer a mid washroom and kitchen with beds on either side. (£75,499)

Bailey’s Autograph range comes with no compromises, just optimum performance combined with complete comfort! With 2, 4 and 6-berth models on offer, there’s something to suit every couple or family!

If you’re keen to buy a motorhome, but do not have the cash up front, consider our flexible finance options! Utilising one of these would make it possible to get what you want for a manageable monthly payment and without putting any pressure on yourselves.

We offer two types of finance - Hire Purchase (HP) and Personal Contract Purchase (PCP). HP is a type of finance that allows you to buy an item outright, but without having to pay the total amount up front. The whole cost of the motorhome will be split across a deposit and a number of fixed monthly payments, usually spread over 24-60 months. There is no large final sum to pay and you automatically own the vehicle as soon as you've made the final payment.

The advantages of it are that you have a say in how much deposit you put down, you can set the length of term according to what you can afford each month and you can pay off lump sums along the way if you wish, so it’s pretty flexible.

PCP is great for those who do not have large amounts of disposable income every month as the monthly payments are smaller and manageable. At the end of the term, which is usually between 24 and 60 months, you’ll have the option to pay a lump sum to purchase the vehicle, or simply trade it in and hand the keys back. It’s also reassuring to know that with both HP and PCP, the loan is on the vehicle, not on you.

Black Horse offers finance on motorhomes as well as new and pre-owned caravans. They offer longer terms, of up to 10 years on new vehicles and 7 years on pre-owned vehicles, meaning the cost can be spread over a longer period if that's what'll suit you best. There is a flat rate of interest for everyone, which is currently 8.9%.

Both HP and PCP options are available, so you can go for whichever best suits your circumstances. There is no minimum deposit for either, although you do have the option to put one down if you wish. You can also pay off lump sums as and when you wish if you have some extra cash, which will enable you to reduce your future payment amounts or shorten your term.
